MOVEMENT MONTREAL COMPLETES ITS VILLE-MARIE TEAM

Montreal, Quebec -- on Monday, August 30, Movement Montreal announced its final candidate in Ville-Marie, Sam Miriello. Miriello, a dedicated community activist, is joining Movement Montreal as its City Councillor in the Sainte-Marie district. Miriello’s candidacy finalizes Movement Montreal’s team in Ville-Marie, where community leaders Idil Issa (Peter-McGill district) and Shane Thompson (Saint-Jacques district) have already begun their campaigns.

At the press conference, Miriello expressed his desire to “unite Sainte-Marie residents and provide them an avenue to be heard beyond this election.” Echoing Miriello’s enthusiasm, Issa and Thompson added that they “look forward to working with Sam to give Ville-Marie residents a new, fresh, innovative government that prioritizes their needs and protects their interests.”

With a focus on families, small businesses, housing, and transit, Issa explained that she is “committed to addressing the bread and butter issues that residents face, offering a pragmatic, balanced approach to governance in the city.” Thompson likewise expressed his desire to work alongside residents to “reinvigorate Chinatown and protect its unique cultural heritage.”

In closing, Balarama Holness, Movement Montreal’s mayoral candidate, also added that his party will work alongside residents and activists to push the provincial government towards reinstating a borough mayor in Ville-Marie. “As the only borough without an elected Mayor, Ville Marie lacks the representation it needs. This is a problem that must be addressed. Under a Holness administration, Movement Montreal will do everything in its power to ensure that the residents of Ville-Maire have a mayor who will be responsive to the needs of the community.” This proposal comes after a series of public consultations with borough residents who have expressed their concerns over their exclusion from city politics. “Movement Montreal is a party that listens. A party that understands. A party that advocates for all Montrealers,” Holness concluded.
