MOVEMENT MONTREAL ANNOUNCES ITS TEAM FOR VILLERAY-ST.MICHEL-PARC-EXTENSION

Montreal, Quebec -- on Tuesday, August 31, Movement Montreal announced its team for Villeray-St.Michel-Parc-Extension: Julien Kakpovi (Borough Mayor), Mohammad Yousuf (City Councillor - Parc-Ex), Anastasia Pomares (City Councillor - Villeray), and Cynthia Nkamicaniye (City Councillor - St. Michel).

Kakpovi, a former political attaché and staffer for the federal Liberal party, has invaluable political expertise and plans to use his knowledge to “fiercely advocate on behalf of everyday Montrealers in Villeray-St.Michel-Parc-Extension.” Amongst a series of priorities, Kakpovi aims to remedy underemployment, increase social and affordable housing, and improve residents’ access to green spaces in the borough. Echoing Kakpovi’s enthusiasm, Yousuf, a longtime resident of Parc-Extension, looks forward to working with Movement Montreal to “build a better, stronger Montreal for all.”

During the press conference, Yousuf specifically spoke about Movement Montreal’s plans to lower the city’s cost of living. Amongst a series of ambitious policies, Movement Montreal has pledged to: 1) approve the creation of 30,000 new affordable rental homes next to major transportation hubs and metro stations; 2) establish a rental registry to control and stabilize rental prices in the city; and 3) adopt a landlord licensing system that requires rental buildings be inspected annually to obtain certification of adequate building maintenance.

“It’s time that the city becomes affordable for everyone. It’s time that residents, regardless of where they live on the Island, have equal access to green spaces, sports facilities, affordable housing, and meaningful employment,” explained Nkamicaniye. “Under a Holness administration, peoples’ lives will undoubtedly be better - more prosperous, more free, and more meaningful,” Pomares added.
